FOUST Newsletter: May 2011

Dear Friends,

Lyzz here, your friendly FOUST Vice President! I’m filling in for Sam while he takes care of his first year law school finals here at Berkeley. I know I know, it’s only his first year, how hard can it be?!

It’s been a super exciting month for the UCLA Sailing Team. The Bruins finished third in the coed Pacific Coast Championships, qualifying them for the national championship semifinals, where they took eleventh in the eastern fleet! UCLA took fifth at team race PCCs in Redwood City, and also fifth at women’s PCCs in Santa Barbara – only one spot out of qualifying position for women’s nationals.

Most recently, UCLA sailors were named in each of the three categories of the All-PCCSC team: Judge Ryan (’14) as a coed skipper, Erica Parker (’14) as a crew, and team captain Carmen Bozina (’11) as a women’s skipper. Carmen was also nominated for the district’s sportsmanship award. Big congratulations to these amazing sailors and the rest of the team on an incredible 2010-2011 season! We’re so proud!

April 2011 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

This is the first of what, going forward, will be a monthly newsletter. We’ve got information about the alumni regatta, a big thank you to the parents whose donations secured a new trailer for the team, not one but two season recaps, and a profile of FOUST member Bobby Gordon (’08), this month’s featured alum.

One result that everyone needs to see, even if you don’t read this whole email: UCLA won the South 5 regatta!! If we had the resources, we would be throwing parades and gladiatorial games for these guys. Since we don’t, we’ll just say congratulations.

Fall 2010 Newsletter

Hi everyone,

In this issue, we’ve got a new fundraising goal, an alumni barbeque (!!!) in the Bay Area, upcoming fall regattas, and profiles of the UCLA Sailing Team officers for 2010-2011.

We’d love to see everyone who can make it at the barbeque on October 3, hosted by a local alumnus. We also want to get as many alumni out to support the team at the Stoney Burke Regatta on October 16 and 17.

Hope you’ve all had a great summer with a lot of chances to get out on the water!

February 2010 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the second edition of the Friends of the UCLA Sailing Team newsletter. We are very proud to announce that just this past weekend, Varsity skipper Oscar Jasklowski won B Division at the South Series 3 regatta in Newport Harbor. Overall, the team came in a very impressive third place. UCLA kicked off the district championship qualifier series this spring by coming in second overall at the Jeff Simon Memorial South Series 1 regatta– without question the best overall result by the Bruins in recent memory. We’re all excited to have the women’s team back from abroad for the spring season, including captain Carmen Bozina and B Division skipper Shannon Walker.

Since our last letter, FOUST has grown significantly, the team has finished a season of sailing and added some great new recruits, and we are working together to bring you new ways to keep up with the team.  read more…

FOUST Inaugural Newsletter

Inaugural Newsletter

Dear Alum, Friend, Parent, or anyone else who might have ended up on our email list,

Welcome to the inaugural issue of the Friends of the UCLA Sailing Team newsletter! First off, I want to thank everyone who turned out for the alumni regatta this spring. We got some excellent fleet and team racing in, raised some money for the team, and everyone had a great time. And perhaps most importantly, we got the alumni together for the first time in far too long.

For our first issue, we have a letter from the team Captains and the racing schedule for year to come. We are also excited to announce the release of our website: www.foustsupport.net. One exciting new feature that I’m sure you’ve all been waiting for is online dues payment, so if you haven’t paid your $25 in annual dues yet please check that out.
