2016 Alumni Regatta

Hi Friends,

Just a reminder that the 2016 UCLA Sailing Team Alumni Regatta is THIS SATURDAY, MAY 14th!  As always, great food, people, and sailing.

Report time is 10:00 and we’ll hopefully start sailing by 11:00.  Racing at the MAC will be followed by a fleet dinner at the Schwegler’s house in Long Beach.  If you haven’t signed up yet, please do so here, or if you’re not a facebook user just send us an email so we have a sense of how many people to expect.

We haven’t done a very good job of communicating the team’s accomplishments in the last year, and there have been a lot of them.  To name a few, the team is close to completing a $10,000 fundraising goal for new boats, the coed team took 7th at PCCs, the women’s team finished 5th at PCCS, and the Bruins will be competing at the WOMEN’S NATIONAL SEMIFINALS in San Diego on May 24th-25th.

FOUST Newsletter: May 2011

Dear Friends,

Lyzz here, your friendly FOUST Vice President! I’m filling in for Sam while he takes care of his first year law school finals here at Berkeley. I know I know, it’s only his first year, how hard can it be?!

It’s been a super exciting month for the UCLA Sailing Team. The Bruins finished third in the coed Pacific Coast Championships, qualifying them for the national championship semifinals, where they took eleventh in the eastern fleet! UCLA took fifth at team race PCCs in Redwood City, and also fifth at women’s PCCs in Santa Barbara – only one spot out of qualifying position for women’s nationals.

Most recently, UCLA sailors were named in each of the three categories of the All-PCCSC team: Judge Ryan (’14) as a coed skipper, Erica Parker (’14) as a crew, and team captain Carmen Bozina (’11) as a women’s skipper. Carmen was also nominated for the district’s sportsmanship award. Big congratulations to these amazing sailors and the rest of the team on an incredible 2010-2011 season! We’re so proud!

News update: Bruins going to Nationals!

Alumni, Parents, and Friends,

As some of you may know, UCLA had an excellent performance last weekend at coed PCCs in Long Beach.  The Bruins took third and qualified for Nationals!

Judge Ryan (’14) and Erica Parker (’14) finished first in A division, winning the Newport Harbor Chamber of Commerce Trophy.  The UCLA freshmen edged out Cal Maritime by one point.  This is most likely the first time UCLA has won A division at PCCs since the late 1970s.  (There are gaps in the district’s records – if you know of a more recent UCLA victory please let us know.)  Oscar Jasklowski (’11) and Carmen Bozina (’11) also had a solid regatta in B, including a first place finish in race 10.
