Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
Although 2016 may be winding down, the team is winding up an ambitious fundraising drive for FIVE boats and we are reaching out to solicit your support. Read on for a detailed note from the team, or head straight to the team’s fundraising page to make your donation! The campaign runs through January 31.
First off, I want to say that we are incredibly proud of the team and all of the progress it has made in the last four years. Four years ago we had less than 10 active members, very few organized practices, and consistently scored in the middle to back of the fleet in regattas. I am very proud to say that today we have about 50 very enthusiastic active members, unprecedented practice attendance, and we have extremely organized and productive practices that are leading us to improve our scores greatly. We have a lot of incoming talent and some members with little experience who are excited to learn and are picking up racing very quickly. As you know, our women’s team made it to women’s nationals for the first time ever last year, and we are looking to build on that momentum and take our team to the next level.
Just a reminder that the 2016 UCLA Sailing Team Alumni Regatta is THIS SATURDAY, MAY 14th! As always, great food, people, and sailing.
Report time is 10:00 and we’ll hopefully start sailing by 11:00. Racing at the MAC will be followed by a fleet dinner at the Schwegler’s house in Long Beach. If you haven’t signed up yet, please do so here, or if you’re not a facebook user just send us an email so we have a sense of how many people to expect.
We haven’t done a very good job of communicating the team’s accomplishments in the last year, and there have been a lot of them. To name a few, the team is close to completing a $10,000 fundraising goal for new boats, the coed team took 7th at PCCs, the women’s team finished 5th at PCCS, and the Bruins will be competing at the WOMEN’S NATIONAL SEMIFINALS in San Diego on May 24th-25th.
NOTICE OF RACE: UCLA SAILING TEAM 2014 ALUMNI REGATTA
Saturday, May 31, 2014

Entry Fee: FOUST and current team members – no charge. All others – $15 at the door. (If you have not yet paid 2014 FOUST dues, and are not signed up for auto-renewal, please pay dues here.)

This was last year. When’s it happening this year?
Interested in coming to the alumni regatta? Fill out our survey here! We are taking votes for Memorial Day weekend and the weekends before and after, but the final decision will also depend on what works best for the MAC and the team. Survey closes on Sunday, March 9.
If you’re currently on the team there’s a different survey for you here.
