Please note that this year the Schweglers have been kind enough to host a dinner at their home in Long Beach following the racing on Saturday!
NOTICE OF RACE
UCLA SAILING TEAM 2011 ALUMNI REGATTA
Location: UCLA Marina Aquatic Center (14001 Fiji Way, Marina del Rey, CA)
Format: As with years past, we will try to run open rotation fleet races early in the day to determine teams for evenly-matched team racing in the afternoon. Courses will depend on conditions and participation.
Mark your calendars, the 2011 UCLA Sailing Team Alumni Regatta will be Saturday, May 21 at the Marina Aquatic Center in Marina del Rey.
The format will be similar to past years, with fleet racing to start the day out, followed by team racing. There will also be food and good company if you’re not sure about getting back in an FJ.
More information coming soon.
Alumni, Parents, and Friends,
As some of you may know, UCLA had an excellent performance last weekend at coed PCCs in Long Beach. The Bruins took third and qualified for Nationals!
Judge Ryan (’14) and Erica Parker (’14) finished first in A division, winning the Newport Harbor Chamber of Commerce Trophy. The UCLA freshmen edged out Cal Maritime by one point. This is most likely the first time UCLA has won A division at PCCs since the late 1970s. (There are gaps in the district’s records – if you know of a more recent UCLA victory please let us know.) Oscar Jasklowski (’11) and Carmen Bozina (’11) also had a solid regatta in B, including a first place finish in race 10.
I’m sorry that you haven’t been hearing much from us lately. Starting Monday, we will be providing a monthly newsletter to keep you up to date about the team and FOUST.
I wanted to write before that came out, though, to alert our Bay Area members to the St. Francis regatta that is taking place this weekend. This is always one of the biggest regattas of the year and usually includes high wind that makes for exciting spectating. I’ll be helping with race committee, several other alumni will be in attendance, and of course the team will be there to compete.
